Yew wood is extremely hard-wearing, reddish wood is known for wood carving and making archery bows .

Yews are conifers, but the seeds are not borne in cones, but occur singly enclosed in a red, fleshy, berry.

The majority of this tree is very poisonous (except the red berry).
